The 17 N.J. school districts with highest teacher salaries, ranked

Public school teachers in New Jersey had median salaries of more than $80,000 during the 2023-24 school year, with teachers in the top-paying districts earning six-figure salaries, according to the recently released state Taxpayers Guide to Education Spending.
The highest paying district, Northern Valley Regional in Bergen County, had a median salary of $119,285.
The best paying districts tend to be larger, or regional high school districts without elementary schools, an NJ Advance Media analysis of recently released state data shows.
All of the top 15 districts have a median pay for teachers in the six figures.
Teachers in the top-paying districts tend to have more experience than the state average, helping drive up the median salary, the data shows.
Teachers in 12 of the top 17 highest paying districts have at least a year more experience than the state average. In Brigantine, the average teacher has more than 17 years of experience, according to state data.
On the other end of the pay scale, the seven lowest paying districts are charter schools with relatively inexperienced teachers. At Bridgeton Public Charter School, which has the lowest median pay, the average amount of experience is less than one year, state data shows.
Salary data is reported annually in the Taxpayer’s Guide to Education Spending. The data is self-reported by New Jersey school districts. Some districts did not report salary data for the 2023-24 school year.
